Mumbai rains updates: Maharashtra govt's negligence led to breach of Tiware dam, says NCP

Mumbai remains paralysed as incessant rainfall continued in the financial capital for the sixth consecutive day. The death toll in rain-related incidents across Maharashtra reached 38. Twenty-two people were killed and 78 injured in a wall collapse incident in the northern suburb of Malad in Mumbai following heavy rains as most parts of the city remain waterlogged. Fourteen people have been killed in the rest of Maharashtra in rain-related incidents till now. The situation in Mumbai seems to be grim as air, rail and road traffic have been affected. There will be no respite from the heavy downpour as IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall today.

NCP leader Dhananjay Munde said the Tiware dam incident in Ratnagiri raises the issue of structural audit and asked the Maharashtra government to provide immediate relief.
"The incident again raises the issue of structural audit. Wake up those in power!," Dhananjay Munde tweeted.

At least nine people were killed and 16 went missing after a dam in Maharashtra's coastal Konkan region breached following incessant rains leading to flood-like situation in downstream villages, officials said on Wednesday.

The NCP on Wednesday alleged that the government's "negligence" was responsible for the breach of Tiware dam in Ratnagiri district, where eight persons were killed.
"How many lives will it take for the government to wake up? The mishap occurred due to the negligence of the administration," Maharashtra NCP chief 
Ratnagiri dam update: Death toll reaches 8
Eight people have been killed after Tiware dam in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra breached causing a flood-like situation in seven villages. "Around 23 people were missing after 12 houses near the Tiware dam washed away. Eight bodies have been recovered till now. Search operation is underway for the missing 15," SN Pradhan, Director General, National Disaster Response Force was quoted as saying by ANI.
